NBNTM arrives in Jindabyne
Locals can access superfast
internet for the first time with the
local launch of Telstra services on
the NBN. Initially the NBN will be
available to about 2,100 homes
and businesses in Jindabyne.
The NBN first went live in
surrounding areas of Jindabyne in
May 2016 with more than 1,100
homes and businesses able to
connect using Fixed Wireless
Telstra Area General Manager
Chris Taylor, said the general
feedback from Telstra customers
on the NBN, is that they are
experiencing much faster speeds
and more bandwidth.
“The arrival of superfast
broadband is great news for the
Jindabyne community and helps
keep residents and businesses
at the forefront of technology in
Australia,” Mr Taylor said.
“The reliable speeds of the NBN
will open up new possibilities for
locals including faster streaming
and less buffering, home
automation, and new possibilities
“As the ski season fast
approaches, we will see an
increase in visitors to the slopes.
With Telstra on the NBN, local
businesses are able to provide
a reliable Wi-Fi service to meet
customer demand,” said Mr
Over the past year, the volume
of traffic carried over Telstra’s fixed
network increased more than 50
per cent*, which can be attributed
to the accelerated demand for
fast, reliable connectivity being
used for the video streaming
Mr Taylor said Australians are
now streaming more content,
across a myriad of different
devices. For the first time
consumers can control where,
when and what content they are
“The streaming video revolution
is accelerating demand for fast,
reliable connectivity. What excites
me most is that faster speeds
mean households can enjoy
content over the internet with less
buffering and fewer interruptions.
“It means one member of the
family can stream Netflix on the
tablet in the study, the kids can
watch a movie on the living room
TV and another member of the
family can upload and download
large files on the back deck,
across a reliable connection, all at
the same time,” Mr Taylor said.
All home phones and internet
services will be transitioned from
the familiar copper network to the
“It’s important for customers
to know the transition isn’t
automatic, and they have to sign
up to an NBN plan, even if they
want to just retain a home phone.”
Locals in and around Jindabyne
will be serviced by a mix of NBN
technologies including Fixed
