Pre-polling information for Snowy Monaro local council elections
If you’ll be overseas, interstate or out of the Snowy Monaro Regional Council area on
Saturday, September 9 (local council elections), then you’re required to apply for a postal
vote or attend a pre-poll voting centre.
People who can’t make it to a polling place on Election Day may be eligible to cast a pre-
poll vote. You can vote before Election Day as a pre-poll or postal voter if:
Outside your ward or council area on
Travelling which prevents you from
attending a polling place on Election Day
More than 8km from a polling place in
your ward or council area on Election
Have serious illness or condition that
prevents you from attending a polling place
on Election Day
Working on Election Day
Religious membership or beliefs that
prevent you from attending a polling
place on Election Day
Residing in a correctional centre which
prevents you from attending a polling place
on Election Day (Postal Voting only)
Are a silent elector
A person with a disability

Book your place at the Library, now!
August is a busy month at Cooma Library with an exciting range of events taking place.
Library staff have planned a bumper month of activities that cater for all ages and
interests. Little ones are encouraged to head along for Children’s Book Week and the
much loved preschool story time. Your child will experience the wonderful world of books
and library staff will also run craft activities.
Children’s Book Week runs from August 19-26. Please call the Library on 6455 1730 for a

Explore your family’s history
For those interested in delving into their ancestry, August is National Family History
Month. Cooma and Bombala Libraries have a comprehensive range of resources relating
to local studies and family history. Cooma Library also offers access to ancestry.com on its
If you would like to find out about your family history, head along to Cooma Library on a
Friday morning to talk to volunteers from the Cooma-Monaro Historical Society. You can
also get help with your family history on most Tuesday afternoons, and you can always ask
the friendly library staff.
Exhibition closes soon
Cooma Library is hosting a travelling exhibition showcasing a cartoonist’s perspective of
war, Satire in the Time of War 1914-1918 by Hal Eyre. This rarely viewed display features
20 reproductions of Eyre’s comical cartoons which are enlightening reflection of war time.
The collection is on loan from the State Library.
Satire in the Time of War 1914-1918 will be held in the Vin Good Meeting Room at Cooma
Library from Saturday, August 5 to Thursday, August 17.
Recycling right in Bombala, Delegate
Council’s Resource and Waste education staff are headed for Bombala
and Delegate next week to inform locals on how they can ‘recycle
right’. The team will provide further information for businesses and
residents on how to make the most of the new comingled bin system.
Staff will be able to inform you of what can and can’t be recycled. It
might surprise you what can be recycle. The team will be in both towns
on Monday, August 21 and Tuesday, August 22. They’ll be in the main
street, talking to businesses and locals.
Local Heritage Fund 2017-2018
Snowy Monaro Regional Council in conjunction with the Office of
Environment & Heritage is pleased to announce Council’s Local Heritage
Fund 2017-2018, which makes available a total of $20,000 for works
to be undertaken on heritage items listed in the Cooma-Monaro Local
Environmental Plan 2013, Bombala Local Environmental Plan 2012 and
Snowy River Local Environmental Plan 2013.
Individual grants of up to $4,000 will be offered to successful applicants
on a dollar-for-dollar basis, with the aim of providing funding to assist in
the delivery of good heritage and urban design management outcomes.
Applications open on Wednesday, 23 August 2017 and close on
Monday, 18 September 2017.

Naming of right-of-ways off Micalago Road, Michelago
As per subdivision 10.2001.102.1, there is a T-shaped right-of-way that
will be created. This will be a private road access for the properties
utilising access. Council is responsible for the naming of right-of-ways
within its Local Government Area.
Council is currently seeking submissions for the naming of these right-
of-ways as “HORSESHOE LANE”, which will be the immediate access
of Micalago Road, with it leading to “BENDEMEER LANE”, from which
most of the properties of the subdivision will be addressed to.

Council’s Your Say Snowy Monaro photo competition has
produced stunning images of our wonderful region. There was a
great response from the community with images submitted in five
categories across three age groups.
Now is your chance to vote for your favourite images. To cast your
vote, please head along to Council’s Facebook page. The top 5
images (receiving the most Facebook likes) from each age group
and category will be displayed at a public exhibition with final judging
from an independent party.
