At the time of going to press, the Snowy
Monaro Regional Council was about to
elect its mayor and deputy mayor for the
next two years.
Unfortunately, due to print deadlines, the
result was not known, but it appeared
those positions would be filled by
councillors from outside Cooma. That
could make life interesting for all and
certainly reinforce the need for council
meetings to be held around the council
From now on though, it should be
onwards and upwards as the council
works with the community to get some
momentum and growth happening.
Watch The Monaro Post Facebook page
to see who was elected last night.
All the sabre-rattling between North Korea
and the United States is becoming a bit of
It seems we have two giant egos trying to
best the other, with the rest of world set to
suffer the consequences.
Time for Agent 007 to step in, quietly
and permanently remove the threat and
restore some sense of calm to the region.
The whole thing seriously resembles a
James Bond movie plot...unfortunately
this is playing for real.
Good luck to the respective football codes
playing their grand finals this weekend.
The Postman watched bit of the AFL last
week and was reminded of how very, very
tribal footy is in Melbourne.
It will be fine time in the old town on
Saturday night if the Tigers break their 35-
year premiership drought.
With two inter-state teams playing in the
NRL grand final, that atmosphere might
not be so prevalent in Sydney.

Trying to shop local found to be frustrating
I was just hoping to bring to your attention the more difficult and
unreliable, trying to support local businesses has become.
I was hoping you could highlight the fact that like many people
in this community I prefer to shop local and support our local
businesses but unfortunately our local businesses aren’t supporting
us to do this. Recently I have had encounters with a number of
businesses trying to purchase products to be told they will contact
me when they find information or when they order or when the
person dealing with this particular product returns; and days then
weeks pass by and I still haven’t heard from these businesses.
By making it so hard to be loyal to my local community, I am
forced to go elsewhere where my request is satisfied on the spot.
I don’t understand the businesses when they struggle to keep
local business running in Cooma.
I hope you share my frustration. Thank you for your time.
Bike Show presentation to community
The Bombala Bike Show Committee was
very pleased to present a cheque to the
Bombala Exhibition Ground Management
Committee on the weekend.
Bike Show President, Darren Cotterill
happily handed $2,500 to the Exhibition
Ground as a “goodwill” donation for the
support that the venue’s committee has
given the Bike Show over the years.
Committee President, Neil Hennessy
gratefully accepted the cheque, offering his
thanks and saying that the money would go
towards improvements at the ground which
will further benefit the Bike Show.
