U14 Southern Zone Rep cricket
Far South Coast and Monaro merged to form an U14 team this year. 5
Monaro lads made the side: Thomas King, Tom Walker, Preston Hilless,
Colby McDonald & Justin McDonald.
Far South Coast /
Monaro v Northern
Cavaliers played at
The first round of
took place on Sunday,
with the newly combined
Far South Coast /
Monaro U14 team taking
on the Northern Cavaliers
at George Griffin Oval,
Batting first, FSCM
felt the full force of the
Cavaliers with the top
order wickets quickly
falling and the score at
4/24 after only 7 overs.
Daniel Piccione (15)
was then joined by
Justin McDonald (41)
at the crease, which
gave FSCM the partnership
needed to steady the innings
and get some runs on the board.
Following Daniel’s dismissal,
Justin continued to withstand
the Cavaliers attack forming
partnerships with Rory McAlpin
(20) and Jessica Mudaliar (16
not out), before being caught
and bowled in the 32nd over.
Jessica continued to play great
supporting cricket as she and
Colby McDonald (26) continued to
amass runs, with FSCM finishing
their innings 10/178.
Feeling confident with their
bowling hoping to replicate the
opening spell of the Cavaliers.
The patience of the bowlers
was tested, however, when the
opening batsman put on 83 runs
before Tom Walker took a catch
behind off the bowling of Zak
Keogh (3/25 off 10). This was
the breakthrough needed by
FSCM to kick start their wicket
taking – C McDonald (3/38 off
9), Tom Pouliot (1/18 off 4) and
Liam Kelly (1/8 off 3). This was
complemented by some tidy
bowling by non-wicket takers
Tom King (0/13 off 6) and Morgan
Thornton (0/3 off 3) and great
work in the field saw two run-
outs. In a very close match,
FSCM came away very deserving
winners, bowling the Cavaliers out
Under 12’s Southern Zone Rep Cricket
On an overcast Sunday morning the under 12’s
Monaro District cricket team travelled to Bega to
play Far South Coast in a 40 over game in the first
of a 5 match Representative draw.
Monaro won the toss and captain Jonah Perea
elected to field. Callum
bowling with figures of
0/4 off 3 overs and with
support from Jonah on
the opposite end with
figures of 0/11 off 3.
Blake Coulter and Charlie
Alcock continued the tight
attack with Charlie Alcock
bowling 0/7 off 3 finishing
with 0/14 off 5. With
consistent fielding from
Jack Kleven and Wyatt
limited, though wickets
were needed to mount pressure. Toby Inskip and
Tom Rudd combined with medium pace and spin
bowling respectively, took three quick wickets with
Toby 1/14 off 3 overs and Tom eventually taking
best figures of day at 3/12 off 6 overs. After drinks
Far South coast came out firing and with wickets
in hand, put on another 110 runs for an impressive
total of a 183.
Once lunch was completed and players were
refueled, it was Monaro’s turn to bat. With a large
total to chase, Cooper Inskip faced his first ball
hitting it over the top
for 4. At 3/17 after 8,
Callum Bailey and Charlie
Alcock started to form a
partnership to steady the
ship through patience and
great defence. Through his
innings, Callum was also
supported by Jake Povey
and Hunter Caldwell to
notch up a half century
but was eventually caught
behind on a well-deserved
59. After the fall of the 7th
wicket, Tom Rudd (5) and
Flynn Palmer (3) held on, to
be not out, meaning the team, although short of the
total (7/116) played the full 40 overs.
It was a great effort by all the team especially
when it was the first cricket game since last
season. Well done boys! And thanks to far South
Coast for a great day of cricket.
