Monaro Air Rifle Club competes at the Australian titles
The 2017, Australian Championships were held at Illawarra
club from January 2 to 5. The Monaro Air Rifle club was
represented by a team of 10 shooters who travelled down to
The first win for the club, came on the Tuesday when Bruno
Schnitzer took out the Golden Oldies competition for veteran
The team’s events were held first on the Wednesday with all
Monaro shooters walking away with medals and a total of 12
medals won by the club.
The singles competition, held on the Thursday saw some
fantastic results for our club.
In the unsupported grades:
Timothy Deamer placed fourth in A Grade with a 535/600.
Bruno Schnitzer placed third in C Grade with a 323/400
Mark Chenery placed second in D Grade with a 329/400
Jake mason shot a 239/400 in E grade
Lauren Chenery shot a 193/400 in E Grade
Tracy Mason shot a 191/400 in E Grade.
In the Rest divisions;
Jake Mason shot a 370/400 for fourth place in Division 2
Timothy Deamer shot a 368/400 in Division 2
Bruno Schnitzer shot a 359/400 in Division 2
Karl Engelhardt placed fourth in division 4 with a 331/400
And in Division 5
Sheridan Abra placed second with a 323/400
Tracy mason shot a 323/400
Sabine Hickling shot a 320/400
Peter Hickling shot a 303/400
And Lauren Chenery 285/400.
Major prizes for the highest combined scores over the two
days went to

Timothy Deamer was the third in the overall senior shooter
One of the Club’s Junior shooter’s, Jake Mason was named
the 2017 Bench Rest Champion after taking out the “Nearest
the centre” competition with a shot that was measured at
The club was awarded third in the Lowenbrau trophy for
accumulated team points for the competition.
Training will resume at the club on January 17, with
preparations underway for the NSW championships to be
held here in Cooma in November.

MEN’S AND LADIES RESULTS:
WEDNESDAY JANUARY 3 : STABLEFORD
After a cool and cloudy start, the competition round
finished in fine sunny weather.
We had a large field overall for the first round of the year,
and the scoring continued to be very strong, with both the
men and ladies.
In the men’s competition, 38 points was out of the
placings, and the ladies’ winner had the highest score for
some considerable time in their competition.
Playing his best ever round at CGC, the winner was Bill
Quin, with 43 points, scoring in the 70s off the stick.
Well done Bill!
Second was a strongly performing Chris Brown with 41
points, third was another good round from Ken Kable with
40 points, and Sunday’s winner, Alan Parsons, was fourth
with 39 points.
Nearest the Pin on third: Peter Neiss (Guest) and
on eighth: Chris Brown
Kathleen Parkyn was the winner in the ladies’ competition,
with a really excellent 41 points.
Well done Kathleen!
Second, with another very good round, was Monica Watt
with 35 points, third was Carolyn Major with 33 points, and
fourth was Jan O’Halloran with 32 points.

MEN’S AND LADIES RESULTS: SUNDAY
JANUARY 7: STABLEFORD
With a very hot day in prospect, and the course rapidly
drying out, most members opted to play quite early, and
the large field of both Men and Ladies were all on the
course before 9am.
The winner, making a welcome return after surgery, with an
excellent round of 39 points, was John Bottrill.
Second, and continuing to show excellent form, was Ross
Thompson with 38 points.
Clinton Starr was third with 37 points, including an eagle 2
on the 10th.
Fourth and fifth places were taken by Lee Hallam and
Arthur Owens respectively with 36 points.
Nearest the Pin on third: Alan Parsons; on eighth:
Charlie Filtness; on 15th: Bob Key; and on 17th: Bob Key
The Ladies had one of their largest fields for some time
with some new faces making the most of the holidays.
The winner was Monica Watt, again playing a very solid
round of 34 points, followed by Jan O’Halloran with 33
That was on a countback from Sharon Gourlay, one of our
new lady members, who also had 33 points. Well done
